Can We Bring Democracy to the United States?

I would like to devote my efforts to raising awareness about our broken voting system for the remaining month in this election season. If I do post, it will mainly be on this topic.

I just hope it isn't true...

Unfortunately, it is true that the voting system is set up to be easily tampered with. In this election, just as with the last two, voters will be able to come out in large numbers only to find that their votes aren't counted in the final tally. There are few methods more easily tampered with than voting by machine. If I knew how to hack these machines then I would shut them down to force districts to use paper ballots. Sadly, I am not as talented as the republicans at tampering with voting machines.

These are really difficult times, both for domestic and foreign politics, and I am more and more concerned about the upcoming election. Seen from here I just can't believe the US people endorse McCain&Palin... where the latter is hardly qualified to run a state, not to mention the whole country.
Most of my american friends are well aware of what's at stake here and all of them, albeit with different nuances, know there is only one possible solution.
Obama isn't perfect of course, but still much more sensible than his counterpart. Why isn't there a clearer shift towards a real change in the US?

keeping fingers crossed

Good for you! Compromised voting systems are the largest threat to Democracy we've ever faced. When the rubber hits the road, the vote is still available to 'throw the bastards out' even with the corrosive influence of money in politics. But take away a verifiable, repeatable vote and we're done for.
